How to Order a New York Driving Record Online

In the state of New York, driving records can be ordered directly from the DMV online. Only the licensed driver can order their own driving record. This sytems makes it easy to obtain your driving record to provide to an employer, verify your driver license status to an insurance company or for any other purpose. This article will show you how to order a New York driving record online.

    Set up your web browser to accept cookies. In Internet explorer 7, at the top toolbar click "tools", then "internet options". Click the "privacy" tab and set the level to "medium".

    Gather the following information before visiting the New York DMV website:

    Client Documentation Number from your license (either above your photo or below the word "Driver License" on your license)
    Document Number (bottom right corner on your driver license)
    Date of birth
    Social Security Number (last 4 digits)
    Current zip code

    Go to the New York DMV website to the "Order an abstract of your driving record" page. A hyperlink to this site is included in the resources section of this article. Click on the icon named "Begin order for driver abstract". You will be asked to verify you are the driver who is requesting their own report.

    Complete all of the information requested. Verify the your mailing address is correct. This is the where the driver record will be mailed. If the address is incorrect you will need to go to a New York DMV office in order to get a copy of your driving record. Once you have completed the application for a driving record an order number will be provided on the confirmation page. Write down the order for reference in case you have any problems.

    Provide an email address. Check your email address after the request is complete for confirmation that the DMV request was submitted correctly.
